And Samsung Takes the Lead in the Smartphone Market Edging Out Apple

Samsung and iPhone are in the fight of their life when it comes to their smartphones. Whether it be fighting over patents or sales, these two are constantly at each other’s throats.

But in the latest reports from IDC Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker, Samsung has edged out Apple for the first quarter of 2012 earning a 29.1% market share vs Apple’s  24.2%.

According to this report, Samsung shipped 42.2 million smartphones worldwide while Apple shipped 35.1 million. There isn’t much difference between the two numbers, but just enough to bring Samsung to the lead–at least for now.
